In the next month we will be teaming with NUTV and adding their content to the channel. We hope to open the channel to more student content in the future. The Past, Present, and Future of RSA Cinema

This summer the Housing Services Committee worked to develop a report evaluating RSA Cinema's past, current state, and looking forward at what needed to be done. We also set the stage for the creation of an RSA Cinema Manual and developed plans for advertising and promoting the channel. The full report is over fifty pages, and can be downloaded here as a PDF. Feel free to comment on the report, and look for the more formal RSA Cinema Manual next week.

RSA Cinema Improvements

The Housing Services Committee would like to solicit your ideas on how RSA Cinema can be improved in the upcoming year. Please post comments about problems you have had with RSA Cinema, what you don't like, and what you want to see us offer.

Some of the feedback we already received has been about the odd starting times. For example, movies used to start at times like 4:08 PM or 9:43 PM. Now, all titles start on a quarter hour (:00, :15, :30, or :45). Also, in response to student complaints about long intermissions with just a screen saying "waiting to play," we have added student-created content in the time between feature movies, which is never more than 15 minutes.

    July Movie Requests

RSA Cinema is a channel where students have a say in what movies are featured each month. In addition to new release titles such as The Eye, Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins, Vantage Point, 10,000 B.C., and Rambo, the Housing Services Committee takes requests from students. Resident Assistants can also take advantage of RSA Cinema and request movies for programs in their buildings. This week the Housing Services Committee will be selecting movies for July. If there's a movie you want to see on RSA Cinema in July, make sure you submit your request by Tuesday at 4:00 P.M.

June Movies on RSA Cinema Video

In an earlier post, I discussed the new "this month on RSA Cinema" videos that we're running on the channel. The videos are now also going to be put on the Internet, thanks to YouTube. In RSA we also used YouTube to host the video from our winning Program of the Year presentation.

Each month we'll be uploading the movies to YouTube and then putting them here on the blog.

    This Month on RSA Cinema...

As was mentioned in a post last week, when the month of June rolls around, six new titles will be available on RSA Cinema. While we'll have an ad in the Northeastern News, we'll also have information about the month's titles on RSA Cinema itself.

In the past when no movie was playing on RSA Cinema, you would see a screen saying "WAITING TO PLAY" and then the name of the next movie and the time. Rather than have this boring screen display for the entire period of time between movies (less than 15 minutes), we'll be running a short video with the names of the titles during the month, and information about the movie's genre, a brief description, and a list of major actors/actresses in the film. Each month when the movies on RSA Cinema changes, we'll update this video to give information about the new movies.

A big thanks goes out to RSA's Public Relations Officer and member of the Housing Services committee, Sarah Huyck, for throwing the idea out there and helping to creating the June movies video and developing a template for future months. As mentioned previously on the Housing Services Committee blog, if you want to request a movie for RSA Cinema you can do so on the RSA website.

    June Movies

If you haven't heard of RSA Cinema, it is a HuskyCable channel (#117) that the Resident Student Association runs and controls the content of. Each month we are able to show a certain number of feature-length films, including new release titles such as The Kingdom, Cloverfield, or Atonement and classics such as Forrest Gump or Field of Dreams. In addition, the channel can feature student-created content, announcements, and educational content and can be of great use for student group, Resident Assistant, and Hall Council programming on-campus.

The movies that will be featured on RSA Cinema during the month of June will be:

    • Lars and the Real Girl (imdb)
    • I'm Not There (imdb)
    • The Great Debaters (imdb)
    • The Golden Compass (imdb)
    • Untraceable (imdb)
    • First Sunday (imdb)

For more information about these titles, click on the "imdb" links to go to the movie's page on the Internet Movie Database.

If you have a suggestion for a movie for July, submit your request here.
